COASTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Project Summary: The Project was aimed at transferring and implementing Community-Based Coastal Resource Management (CB-CRM) approaches to six different pilot project sites in the Philippines. The purpose of the Project was to reverse the accelerated degradation of the coastal environment in these areas, instill sound resource management practices, and create viable alternative economic opportunities for displaced fishers. The six pilot sites were strategically selected to serve as foci for the spread of CB-CRM throughout the Philippines.

Project Outcome: Developed a strategic plan for assessing the opportunities for appropriate enterprise development alternatives to the over-exploited coastal resources. We made the remaining marine resource-related enterprises more efficient and profitable. PacMar also provided fisheries management, seafood handling and marketing, enterprise development, and business planning expertise to support core advisors throughout the life of the project.
